Learning about Wood and Wood Products can be lots of fun! Check out the following Lessons and Activities, and discover the magic in wood for yourself!

1. HOW A TREE GROWS

A brief discussion of three parts that every tree has, and how these parts grow.

2. WOOD PARTS AND ANATOMY
Taking a Look at Wood
Explore the many features of wood that are visible to the unaided eye including growth rings, knots, bark, heartwood and sapwood.

Taking a Closer Look at Wood
Discover the importance of the less obvious features in wood, including phloem, cambium, rays, and xylem. Can't pronounce these words? Don't worry, by the time you reach the end of this lesson, you'll not only be able to pronounce them, you'll know why they are so important!

3. WHAT'S THIS?

This lesson will explain how to identify several different trees and their wood just by looking at them. There's a quiz at the end, so pay attention!

4. WOOD PRODUCTS
How Wood is Processed
When we think about wood, we think about ... well ... wood. But, sometimes, wood is processed before things are made from it. This lesson explains how wood is processed to make four of the most common wood products; Boards, Paper, Plywood, and Particleboard. You even learn how to make your own paper!

5. DAILY WOOD
Everyday Uses of Wood in Your Home
Similar to our Wood Magic Show Event, "Daily Wood", this lesson describes the many (and often surprising) ways that we use wood every day. There's even a scavenger hunt, so you can identify wood and wood related things in your own home!

6. RENEWABLE NATURAL RESOURCES
Why Wood & Wood Products are a Good Choice!
What is a "Renewable Natural Resources," anyway? Find out in this lesson, and discover the many reasons they are so valuable to us. There is quiz at the end so you can see what you have learned.

7. ROCK STARS
Wood's Strength!
What does it mean for wood to be strong? What makes wood strong? Answers to these questions, and a fun activity await you in this lesson.

8. TREES ARE GREAT!
Plant a Tree!
This section includes Tree Planting Tips and Amazing Tree and Wood facts.

9. TOMMY TERMITE TREATS
The Good, the Bad, and the (yes) Ugly.
Everything you ever wanted to know about these little insects, and a bunch of stuff you probably didn't. This lesson includes how to identify different species of termites, how to examine your home for them, and what to do if you find them! There is also a section on termite families (did you know there was a Termite Queen ??) and even a version of our ever-popular event "Tommy the Termite".
